UME Architects / Corner House Kitashirakawa
Created from solid strips of concrete for the building’s exterior both vertically and horizontally and at night when the interior ambiance highlights and shadows the white washed exterior. Architect Satoru Umehara comments, ‘The bands depth thickens the boundary of the wall making the division between in-and-out ambiguous.’
The interior arrangement focus on social interaction between family members. The master bedroom and bathroom have been placed on the ground floor and the upper levels where the family spend most of their time. An open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room are located on the first floor, with a void above connecting to the second floor where the study and children’s space are located.
